About

What We Do

The Tri-Agency Workforce Initiative seeks to build a strong Texas workforce and ensure that Texans are prepared for jobs in the industries that power the state’s economy today and tomorrow.

Why We Do It

Texans of all ages should have access to high-quality education and workforce training that empowers them to achieve their full potential.

How We Do It

The Tri-Agency Initiative partners collaborate on signature initiatives that support Texas students and workers and build talent pipelines to spur economic growth across the state. We work together to streamline the implementation of our individual and combined efforts, responding to legislation and the needs of our constituents. We advise on regional and local implementation of state strategies and listen to our partners in the field who are driving impact.

Who We Are

Governor Greg Abbott established the Tri-Agency Workforce Initiative in March 2016. Through the initiative, the commissioners of the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), and the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) work together to help Texas grow in economic prosperity. In February 2020, Governor Abbott asked the agencies to marshal their combined resources to address long-term education and employment needs across the state. Governor Abbott charged the Tri-Agency Initiative with developing strategies in seven key areas: readiness, completion, transitions, upskilling, educator pipeline, partnerships, and infrastructure.
